Halloween Wallhanging/Tablemat Swap

Postby Tina W » Sun Aug 23, 2009 7:29 pm

[size=14]Hostess: Holly E

~ This is a one time seasonal swap.

~The theme for the wall hanging/table mat is Halloween.

~~Sign ups start the first of September and the partner list will be posted on the 5th of the month. You need to have your completed project in the mail by the 10th OF OCTOBER.
~Please copy and paste the sign up list into a "reply to" post on this thread and add your name and preferences. (like no spiders or witches please and if a wallhanging- if you'd like a hanging sleeve on the back or tabs on the top for hanging it up).

~When you sign up, please indicate if you'd like a wall hanging or a table mat. A wall hanging will have to have either hanging tabs or a hanging sleeve on the back. We want the receiver to be able to use this right away.

~The wall hanging/table mat must measure AT LEAST 12" square, however, you MAY choose to make it larger.
~The project needs to have at least two pieced blocks (eg. paper, foundation, or traditional piecing) and two appliqued blocks (eg. hand turned, or using a nice stitch to prevent fraying if washed.)You can use more if you like. You can also embroider in these blocks or use bead work.

~Please quilt your wall hanging/table mat. It doesn't have to be a lot of quilting, nor fancy, but just enough to hold it together nicely.Of course you may feel free to express your creativity with your quilting as well!

~If something comes up and you are unable to send your swap out by the deadline, please PM(private message) your hostess and your partner.

Have Fun!!! Coloring book pages are great for applique ideas. In the example shown above, the pumpkin block was simply a coloring page design. The kitty block was found by googling "halloween silhouettes"...very easy! The example shown above uses 9" finished blocks with a 3/4" inner border and a 2 1/2"(finished) outer border and the blocks were found at the Quilters Cache.

I am thinking about this one......

Question???? What size is the sleeve suppose to be.????? Narrow for a round dowel or for a flat peice of wood....... a size would help.....

Hmmmm....What about if the recipient specifies the size? I like using flat pieces of wood ( like yardsticks) but I know some would like to use dowels.
What do you think ladies?

Sounds good to me. I think a 2 inch opening should be good or maybe 3.

Well I would say the 3" would be the good, it is best to have it a little bigger than too small.....

Ok put me down for this one as well.......I would rather have a table matt please.......whatever is fine with me......

Hi gals,
I was asked what the pieced blocks that I used in my wallhanging example were.
They are 9" blocks and are from Quilters Cache.
The first one is called Paths and Stiles and here is the link:
http://www.quilterscache.com/P/PathsandStilesBlock.html

The second one is called Cups and Saucers and here is the link to that one:
http://www.quilterscache.com/C/CupsandSaucersBlock.html

I just found coloring pages and made the appliques from those for the applique block.
I'm sorry, but I seemed to have lost the message from the Quilting Buddy who asked me about this so I hope this posts helps.
Hugs,
Tina W

Hi, Tina,
I am still working on your wallhanging. I was waiting for some Halloween fabric that I ordered to arrive. Now I will have to work fast. LOL.
I am really looking forward to what you have sent. I love surprises, especially hand made ones!

I love all my Halloween wallhangings that I've gotten over the years. I know that I probably wouldn't have made one for myself...isn't that silly?
I'll definitely be doing this one again next year.
